Treasure From the Wreck of the Concepcion
Impressive and very large silver 8-reale Piece of Eight struck c. 1640, Mexico mint. Cross with two castles and lions / Shield with Spanish royal coat-of-arms. This coin is a piece of treasure from the wreck of the Concepcion, sunk at the Silver Shoals, Abrojos Reef in the Florida Straits in 1641. The Concepcion was one of the most significant Spanish wrecks of all time, serving the Spanish with a loss of over 100 tons of silver and gold treasure. The wreck was re-discovered by Burt Webber in 1978.Each coin is set into a stunning .925 silver bezel and 21 Italian silver chain. The bezel features attractive fleur-de-lis elements and a small skull and crossbones stamped into the top of the bail. It also comes with a leatherette hardbound informational booklet/certificate. Every coin is unique but similar in size and condition, although the spaces vary greatly. The one you will receive might be slightly different and not necessarily the same as pictured.
